South Lodge Primary School - Green Flag Eco-School

On Wednesday 2 May South Lodge received its Eco-school inspection.  Due to all the very hard work of pupils, staff and parents, we are now very proud to report that we were awarded the top award of a green flag.  Well done to everyone involved!

Eco-Action Day

The Mrs Sinclair and the Eco-Committee organised an excellent Eco-Action Day on Thursday 26 April.  Despite the rain we had plenty of willing parents/families in to help the whole school do a variety of tasks to improve our school grounds.  They worked extremely hard painting sheds, weeding and planting, litter picking the grounds, sweeping and tidying.  Thank you so much to all the helpers that gave up their time.

Easter Fayre Description: E:\16.12.12\Southlodge site 2.1\j0436182.png

Our Parent Council put on an excellent Easter Fayre on the last day of term.  We had great fun taking part in the great activities.  They raised a great amount of £573.73.

Many thanks to the following local businesses for their support in giving us prizes for the raffle:

Tina & Therapy Rooms; Anne at Thanks a Bunch; Boomerang; Boots; Reids Highland Fare;

Easter Ross; Co-op; Nisa; Forbes the Jewellers; Corner Shop (Hardware); Post Office; Ladbrokes; Sharons and Mackays of Dingwall.

A big thanks go to the Parent Council mums for their hard work, and finally to John Baxter for giving his valuable time in collecting items for the sale in and around Invergordon.

ROSS-SHIRE NETBALL TOURNAMENT

Our netball team did us proud last term and came in first place at the Ross-shire Netball Tournament.  Well done to them for all their hard work and also well done to Mrs Hallas for all the effort she has put in with the group.

MFR KID'S TALK

Primary 3 had a very special visit from Jodie McClusky of Moray Firth Radio last week.  Four of the children were interviewed and they had to describe something for the listeners to figure out what they were talking about.  You can listen to Kids Talk on Jodie's programme every weekday afternoon between 2pm and 6pm.  If you miss it, click on the link below -

LEGO DONATIONS

If any of you have any spare Lego/Duplo in your attic that you no longer require we would be extremely grateful for any donations at South Lodge for our new Lego Therapy Unit.  This is a brand new venture being set up, kindly supported by Dave Miller, The Murray Family and the Technip Workforce.

This excellent venture will particularly help the ASN children make sense of their classroom learning by a hands-on approach and make their schooling so much more enjoyable.

Nairn Fun Run

Another great Fun Run this year with everyone who went enjoying their run and winning a medal.

   ECO-SCHOOL BOTTLE RE-USING PROJECT

The Eco-Committee have decided to undertake an exciting project to make shelters using 2 litre fizzy drinks bottles.  Photos will appear on this site as the project commences but in the meantime, please, please could you all assist us in collecting as many empty, clean, labels removed 2 litre fizzy drinks bottles.  Any colour will be fine as although the shelters will mainly be constructed using clear bottles, the occasional line of coloured bottles will give a good effect.  Below is a picture of the type of bottle we need.

House Teams

This year we have new House Teams for everyone.

 SHOPPING/FUNDRAISING

South Lodge Primary School is participating in a brilliant fundraising scheme run by:

Any online shopping can be done by using the Easyfundraising link to raise extra funds for the school.  We would like to ask that parents, families and friends to please sign up and use Easyfundraising for all your online shopping.  So far we have raised £456.92 which is excellent.  There is absolutely no extra cost to you when you shop, and you may even receive some great special offers through the site.

Also, if you want to search the web, please use the easyfundraising search tool and again, we will receive even more money.

So far, South Lodge has used the money raised from www.easyfundraising.org.uk to purchase 2 new Flip Camcorders and a reading programme for the computer.

Cycling Safety!!!

Following a 'near miss' between a vehicle and a child on a bicycle in the school car park recently, we would like to ask all parents to take some time to discuss the importance of road safety with your child.

We remind parents that children should not be cycling in the school car park and to emphasize the dangers to your child!

After School Clubs

At South Lodge, you can experience several After School Clubs.

On a Monday we have Netball with Mrs Hallas.

On Wednesday there is athletics.

Come along and get fit this year!!!
